In this article, I’m going to share some new leaks and rumors about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, the next generation of Samsung’s foldable phone. According to Ice Universe, the renders and concept images that we shared last time, based on the patents filed by Samsung, are not far from the reality. This means that the wide phone design is likely to happen, as well as some other interesting features.
One of the features that we might not see on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is the S Pen slot. Another leaker said that it is practically impossible to include it, considering that the phone will be only 11mm thick when folded. That means it will be much thinner when unfolded, and there won’t be enough space for the S Pen slot. On top of that the battery capacity will be higher than the previous model, which had a 4,400mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to have a 4,600mAh battery, which is a pretty good upgrade.
To give you some perspective on the thickness department, the current Galaxy Z Fold 5 is about 13.4mm thick when folded, which is quite bulky. Even though there are no gap between the two halves of the phone, it’s not very slim. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is finally going to change that, and it’s impressive.
In terms of the processor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is going to be very similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This is a great chip anyway, so it’s not a big deal. The biggest deal is other areas.
The camera setup of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is going to be very similar to the current model, with a 50MP main camera, a 10MP 3x telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. Maybe Samsung will need another year to upgrade these cameras to something better, like a 50MP 5x camera. I mean, I want that.
But the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is also coming with the same titanium build quality as the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which makes it more durable and premium. It will also have three color options, and we can see a very dark blue, or indigo blue, kind of color. There will be other colors too, plus some Samsung exclusive colors, but we will slowly get to know about them.
What we know now is that the under-display camera is going to be much more improved than the previous models, which have been pretty bad. This is going to be a more advanced technology, and we’ll have to wait and see how it performs.
But the coolest thing is actually the front screen, or the cover screen, which is going to be a 6.4-inch display, with a 20:9 aspect ratio. And the inside screen, or the main screen, is going to be almost square this time, with a 1.08:1 aspect ratio. This will make the phone more versatile and adaptable for different tasks and apps.
The weight of the phone, compared to the current model, which is about 253 grams, is not known yet. But leakers saying we can expect it to be lighter, considering the thinner design and the titanium material.
Now taking about how much wider the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is going to be compared to the current model, The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 6.2-inch cover screen with a 23.1:9 aspect ratio, which means it’s quite narrow. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, on the other hand, is rumored to have a 6.4-inch cover screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio, which means it’s much wider.
This is closer to the normal phone screens, which are usually 19.5:9 or 19.3:9. So the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will look more like a normal slab smartphone, which is actually really good. It will make it more comfortable to use and more versatile for different apps. This is the biggest change yet for the Galaxy Z Fold series.
And that also means the inner screen, or the main screen, will be bigger too. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 7.6-inch inner screen with a 22.5:18 aspect ratio. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to have a 7.6 to 7.8-inch inner screen with a 1.08:1 aspect ratio, which is exactly square. This is an interesting change.
But one of the coolest things that is coming is the sharp edges, instead of the rounded corners. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is also rumored to have the same design as the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with sharp edges like the Galaxy Note series. This will make the phone look more premium and sleek, and also more durable. The phone might even look very similar to the Nubia Z60 Ultra, according to Ice Universe, a reliable leaker. So it could finally become a Galaxy Note Z phone kind of combined thing, which is probably gonna make this the best successor to a Galaxy Note device.
Except for the S Pen slot, of course. That’s something that we will have to wait for a few more generations until they figure out how to put an S Pen slot or how to attach the S Pen without having a case on. So that’s a bit disappointing.
But I’m more excited about the wider and bigger screens and the sharp edges than anything else in this phone. Let me know about your thoughts in the comment section below. What do you think?
