we finally have the first CAD renders from OnLeaks about the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and this is really exciting because this clearly shows what Ice Universe already said: flat sides and sharp corners. This means the whole main display will be a proper square, not having curved corners like the past models, which will actually differentiate it a lot from the last models.
But talking about the last models and this model, the difference between them in terms of dimensions is not going to be as drastic as we heard last time from some leakers. For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will still have the 7.6-inch display that will still be portrait-oriented by default, so you have to rotate the phone to get it in landscape. Maybe Samsung will need another year to realize that we need a proper wide foldable, not a taller one.
But at the end of the day, the dimensions look like this: 153.5 x 132.5 x 6.1 mm when unfolded, it’s very similar to the current Galaxy Z Fold 5. The overall thickness when closed is not going to be anywhere close to 11 mm or whatever we heard last time. So it’s still going to be exactly what it was for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which is 13.4 mm. Maybe it’s slightly less; it’s going to be more like 13.3 or so. And it also means that the cover display is still a 6.2-inch display.
So overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is actually 1.4 mm shorter and about 2.6 mm wider than the predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 5. But that doesn’t mean this whole squared-off design is not a big change. It is actually a big change.
Now, it still has the same under-display camera. We have heard that it will have a newer, more improved under-display camera inside the main display, but we don’t know the resolution or anything like that. But it will have the same dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, 120Hz refresh rate, both inside and outside. Also, we can expect a higher peak brightness of up to 2600 nits for the main display as well as the cover display, which is going to be a good upgrade.
Now, the RAM and storage thing will be very similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which is about 12 or 16 gigabytes of RAM depending on storage variants and up to one terabyte of storage option with UFS 4.0 tech. Now, in terms of cameras, we have already heard that there is not going to be any change at least at the rear, which means 50 megapixel, 12 megapixel, and 10 megapixel cameras. The same 3x camera, the same everything.
Plus, we also know that it will also get the same 7 years of major OS updates and 7 years of security updates.
I mean, that’s not a surprise, that’s not news. the last thing I forgot to mention is that the battery could see an upgrade to 4,600 mAh.
There is a good chance that we might see two new Galaxy Z Fold models. One is going to be the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the standard one, and the other one is actually going to be the Ultra one. So instead of a Fan Edition model, Samsung is going to introduce a Galaxy Z Fold 6, the standard one, and a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra.
Now, what could be the differentiating factors? According to the leaker, it will have a much more high-end camera setup, a 200 megapixel ISOCELL HP2SX camera, just like the current S24 Ultra. It will also get the same stylus support, but we don’t know whether it will have a stylus slot or magnets at the sides to attach it, but it will have it. And it will also have higher memory and storage configuration, plus it will have a much larger main display and a much larger cover display.
And that kind of aligns with the last rumor we heard about the Galaxy Z Fold 6, with about 11 mm thickness when closed, plus much thinner sides, much bigger cover display, much more wider cover display, and much more wider and bigger main display, with much less visible crease.
So, thanks to a new leak, I think this is what we’re going to have: a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, and that is really exciting.
